FAQ’S on Photography Conference

Answers to our most FAQ’s:

When and where is your next Photography Conference?

October 4-6, 2013 at the beautiful Cherry Valley Lodge located just outside Columbus, Ohio.

How much does it cost to attend your Photography Conference?

Early Bird Registration begins on May 17th (with a $100 discount be offered in May only.) Find out all the details here:  Registration Information

What is included in the cost of your Photography Conference?

The conference price includes fantastic activities all weekend long including:

  • Amazing Kick-Off Party on Friday evening (bring your dancing shoes!)
  • Breakfast, Lunch & Light Snack on Saturday
  • Small and Large-Group Lessons with the I Heart Faces Creative Team on Saturday
  • Tons of fun Giveaways & Goodies!
  • Sunday Photo Walk (great opportunity to interact with the IHF Community one last time; there will be opportunities for shooting set-up sessions at this time as well)
  • Membership in a private Facebook group we’ve put together just for Conference attendees.  Make friends & connections before the Conference even begins!

There will also be numerous other optional activities on Friday and Sunday for those who would like to do even more:

  • Small group, intensive photography workshops on Friday and Sunday
  • Fun all-day Photography Trip to Amish Country on Friday (transportation is included from Cherry Valley Lodge for this activity)
  • Opportunities for Portfolio Reviews by the I Heart Faces Creative Team

Please remember that hotel and travel expenses are not included in the conference pricing. Transportation is not provided by I Heart Faces with ticket price. Each attendee is responsible for their own hotel and transportation unless specifically noted next to an activity.

Why are the optional, add-on workshops not included with the conference pricing?

We are so excited that five of our conference speakers offered to teach additional small-group, highly intensive, hands-on workshops while they are in the Ohio area for our conference.  These workshops are completely separate from the official conference activities, but I Heart Faces is providing the classroom space so that attendees do not have to travel to attend them.  Typically, to attend this type of a workshop you would have to travel to wherever the teacher lives (in the case of these photographers, you would have to travel to Michigan, California, Florida, Canada and New York) and they would  be priced anywhere from $800-1200+.  As part of our agreement, our speakers all agreed to special rock-bottom pricing just for our conference attendees.   We truly appreciate the time and effort they are putting into providing a high quality workshop for our attendees to participate in if they choose.  These workshop are completely optional and no one is required to take them.

When should I plan to arrive?

To make the most out of your weekend away, we’d recommend that you arrive on Thursday evening (October 3rd). Several optional small-group, intensive photography workshops will be taught on Friday and Sunday by Susan Keller, Jean Smith, Rachel Durik, Jennifer Tonetti-Spellman and Hilary Camilleri (details can be found here.)  Various Creative Team members will be available for optional Portfolio Reviews on Friday and Sunday (details will be announced on our private Facebook Group for conference attendees in August.)  There will also be an all-day Photography Trip to Amish Country hosted by Amy Locurto (co-founder of I Heart Faces) on Friday (which will be gorgeous with the beautiful fall colors in Ohio!) To take advantage of any of these optional activities, you will want to be at the location by early Friday morning.

If you choose not to participate in the optional activities, The Kick-Off Party for the actual Conference will begin on Friday evening at 7:00 pm.  Trust us…you will NOT want to miss that!  :)

What is your refund Policy?

I Heart Faces does not issue refunds, but tickets may be transferred to another person of buyer’s choice after purchase and at least 30 days prior to the event for a $50 refiling fee. Sale of ticket is the responsibility of the ticket holder.  Please contact us (using the email address on your registration packet) with the new attendees name, email address and phone number.

I’ve got a product I would like to include as a giveaway or in your swag bags who should I contact?

We love goodies! Please check out our sponsor page for more details and we’ll send you a rate sheet for sponsorship.

Is there a special hotel you recommend?

To be right in the middle of all the fun, we highly recommend that attendees stay at Cherry Valley Lodge.  This all-inclusive location includes free parking and the conference center is attached to the hotel making it easy to get from one place to the other quickly!

What airport do I fly to?

Columbus International Airport (CMH).

How do I get from the airport to the conference location?

I Heart Faces does not provide transportation for any events (unless specifically noted next to an event.) We will be adding all conference attendees to our private Photography Conference Facebook Group though and we hope that this will help a lot of attendees make connections before the conference begins so that transportation and hotel rooms can be shared (a great way to save money!)  Details for joining our private Facebook Group will be provided when you complete your registration.

I’m not wanting to be a professional photographer, but love photography and am somewhat advanced with my camera skills, can I still attend?

Anyone with the love of photography can attend. We have will be offering sessions throughout the day geared towards three different tracks:  Beginners, Intermediate and Professional.  From those just starting out…to those who are thinking about starting a business…to those who would like to make their photography business grow and become stronger.  There will be classes for everyone!

Are men allowed to attend?

The I Heart Faces Photography Conference is geared towards our blogging audience of women. Besides photography, we will be discussing issues that relate to women such as motherhood, women related blogs, working at home with children, crafting, and doing various girly things. We are not opposed to men attending  (we are both married to awesome men!), but since past surveys have indicated that our audience is 99% women, that is who we are designing our conference event around.

I’ll be bringing my infant with me? Is that a problem?

If you need to bring your baby that is absolutely fine! If your baby gets fussy, we ask that you please just step outside the classroom so the other attendees aren’t distracted. Not very many people usually bring babies to our events so we don’t offer mom and baby activities or childcare. Thanks!

Do you have scholarships for those who can’t afford this?

If we do provide scholarships, we will advertise it or do a scholarship giveaway on our blog.

Do I need to bring a fancy lens with me? All I have is the lens my DSLR came with right now.

You will be fine with the lens you have now, all levels of photographers are welcome! Don’t buy anything new before you come, our conference is a great place to learn about new lenses (Tamron Lenses will even be teaching a class on this topic!)  There will also be great shopping and learning opportunities with our sponsors, Arlington Camera and Tamron Lenses.

Are you accepting models for your event?

We recommend following the I Heart Faces Facebook Fan Page if you are interested in being a model for our event.  We will be announcing all casting calls there.
